ARMSTRONG ON SUNDAY: By Eck, that was a bit close.

RELIEVED boss of the week award goes to Alex McLeish.

That was a good win of Maritimo, albeit on penalties.

A lot of fans don't realise, but the Portuguese side are second in the league and flying. They were always going to be tough to beat.

But Rangers stuck in there and ground out the result.

It's a big boost for Scottish football, but they now need a really decent run in Europe to restore confidence and aid the bank balance.

Across town, and Martin O'Neill will be wondering what he has to do.

There's no question if FIFA ever reduced the game time to 87 minutes, Celtic would be European champions.

Time and time again, they have conceded goals to lose in the last few minutes..and you would have thought they'd have learnt by now.

Martin is a good manager and considering what he's had to work with, it's a credit to him that he's won the league title in his first season, done the double and got the Bhoys to a UEFA Cup Final.

But the simple fact is he needs the purse strings released, Celtic will continue to win the league and fail at the first hurdle in Europe unless they start spending some money.

You can't get away with just signing Juninho, who is a top performer but he's just one player. Celtic desperately need more like him.
