ARMED FORCES GET WATCHDOG.

THE Government has appointed the first Ombudsman for the defence forces, it was revealed yesterday.

Defence Minister Willie O'Dea said barrister Paulyn Marrinan Quinn has been nominated for the post. The watchdog will deal with complaints made by current and former members of the Army and Naval Service.

The Permanent Defence Force Other Ranks Representative Association (PDFORRA) wished the Ombudsman "every success".

A spokesman said: "It's very good news for PDFORRA and its members that this important appointment has been made."
