ARMED COPS ARREST CITYGUN SUSPECT.
THIS is the moment armed police swooped on a suspected gunman in Liverpool city centre.
Rush-hour traffic was brought to a standstill as officers surrounded the man in Dale Street.
ECHO Reporter Police created a barrier around a taxi in the busy street in the heart of Liverpool's business district just after 4.30pm yesterday.
Dozens of pedestrians and drivers had flooded 999 with emergency calls after reporting seeing the man carrying a firearm before getting into a taxi.
Officers cordoned off the street and swooped on the vehicle. They ordered the passenger to come out slowly with his hands in the air.
Seconds later he was under arrest and being driven away for questioning. No weapon was found on him when he was arrested, but police checks revealed he was wanted in connection with a number of offences.
Workers in nearby offices were alerted to the incident when they heard officers ordering the man to give himself up.
Our picture was taken by a worker who saw the drama unfold through through his office window.
The man, who asked not to be named, said: ``The police screeched to a halt outside. They all jumped out of their cars and started pointing guns at the taxi.
``It was very dramatic like something from a Hollywood movie.''
