ARMCO SELECTS ONE OXFORD CENTRE FOR HEADQUARTERS SITE

PARSIPPANY, N.J., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert L. Purdum announced today that Armco Inc. had selected One Oxford Centre at 301 Grant Street in downtown Pittsburgh, to house its consolidated corporate headquarters staff. The company said it signed a lease to occupy approximately 54,000 square feet of space, formerly occupied by Westinghouse Financial Services Inc.
"We are delighted with the new location and are looking forward to moving to Pittsburgh, which we expect to complete by year end," he said. "This is another tangible step in our strategy to become the recognized leader and low-cost, quality producer in the specialty steel industry."
Armco is moving its corporate headquarters to Pittsburgh because the city is geographically centered near Armco's largest specialty steel operations, including the stainless and electrical flat-rolled steel facilities in Butler, Pa. In addition, the Pittsburgh location puts company management much closer to a substantially larger portion of its customer base.
Purdum said that One Oxford Centre was ideally suited for employees, offering many excellent amenities and a dynamic, business-oriented atmosphere. He commented that this modern, 45-story high-rise, is representative of the transformation and renaissance of Pittsburgh in recent years, a transformation similar to what Armco is undertaking.
Citing the importance of utilizing knowledgeable, local companies at this stage of the relocation process, Armco said it had retained the Pittsburgh-based architectural firm of Burt Hill Kosar Rittelmann Associates to assist with the design, build out and move to the new space. The company also said that Information Applications, Inc., another Pittsburgh-area firm, had been hired to provide telecommunications and computer-system services.
The move will consolidate multi-corporate functions from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey and allow for improved corporate staff efficiency and more productive interaction with the company's operating facilities and its customers. Ultimately, Armco's Pittsburgh staff will number about 90.
Armco, currently headquartered in Parsippany, is a leading domestic producer of stainless and electrical steels. Armco also produces carbon steels and steel products, non-residential construction products and tubular goods. Armco has joint venture interests in companies which produce stainless steels, carbon flat-rolled steels and oil field equipment.
