ARMCO INC. ELECTS NEW CORPORATE VICE PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY

 PARSIPPANY, N.J., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Armco Inc. (NYSE: AS) has elected Gary R. Hildreth, age 55, to corporate vice president and secretary of Armco Inc., effective Sept. 1, 1993. In addition to his new responsibilities, Hildreth will continue in his current position as general counsel. He succeeds Robert W. Kent, who retired on Aug. 31, 1993.
 Hildreth joined Armco in 1971 as general counsel for Hitco, an Armco subsidiary, and became general attorney for Armco's oil field equipment division in 1978. He was named assistant general counsel for Armco in 1986 and associate general counsel two years later. In 1992, he was named assistant vice president - law and then elected to general counsel in February of 1993.
 A native of Valparaiso, Ind., Hildreth holds a B.S. degree in business and a law degree (J.D.) from Indiana University.
 Armco Inc. is a leading domestic producer of stainless and electrical steels. Armco also produces carbon steels and steel products, non-residential construction products and tubular goods. Armco has joint venture interests in companies which produce stainless steels, carbon flat-rolled steel and oil field equipment.
