ARMAND FEIGENBAUM, WORLD RENOWNED QUALITY EXPERT, ADDRESSES EXCELSIOR AWARD FORUM ON STATE OF U.S. COMPETITIVENESS

ALBANY, N.Y., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Armand V. Feigenbaum, the world renowned quality expert who originated the total quality approach which has been responsible for the competitive and bottom line success of many of the world's leading corporations, and chief executive officer of General Systems Company Incorporated, will be keynoting an address at a "Quality Day" forum on Tuesday, Sept. 14, for New York's Excelsior Award, given annually for quality achievement by private sector, public sector and educational organizations in New York.
Dr. Feigenbaum's remarks (9:00 a.m.), at the Convention Center here, will follow those of Lt. Governor Stan Lundine and precede those of Governor Mario Cuomo.
Dr. Feigenbaum, in whose name Massachusetts has developed a quality award for its corporations, will be addressing the state of quality and competitiveness among U.S. corporations in the global market and the influence awards like the Excelsior have on the level of quality.
"Quality leadership is the best single job creation program we have in America in these brutal economic times," said Dr. Feigenbaum. "As the recently announced reinventing government initiative by Vice President Gore clearly demonstrates, quality is finally being seen as the key tool for improving service to the customer, gaining a competitive edge and controlling costs. This government initiative, and awards like the Excelsior in New York, the Feigenbaum Award in Massachusetts, the national Malcolm Baldrige Award and others, have played and will continue to play a critical role in both demonstrating that quality goods and services are the real job and business creator and provide a litmus test for private, public and educational organizations to use to assess their own competitive abilities and work processes.
"Much of the recent coverage of the gains in quality by many U.S. manufacturers and some service organizations is due to this increased awareness of the bottom line impact of quality-related initiatives," said Dr. Feigenbaum.
General Systems, headquartered in Pittsfield, Mass., is an international firm whose business is accelerating the profitability and business effectiveness of major manufacturing and service corporations worldwide by helping them reform those areas of the corporation fundamental to the achievement of greater competitive advantage, increased productivity and reduced costs.
