ARIENS TO MOVE GRAVELY OPERATIONS TO WISCONSIN

ARIENS TO MOVE GRAVELY OPERATIONS TO WISCONSIN
BRILLION, Wis., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Ariens Company today

announced the consolidation of Gravely International's manufacturing operations in Clemmons, N.C. into the Ariens facilities in Brillion, Wis. It is anticipated that the consolidation of manufacturing operations will be completed by the end of the calendar year. Gravely sales, marketing and customer support services will remain in Clemmons.
Gravely, a manufacturer of top-quality commercial mowing equipment and lawn and garden tractors and related equipment for homeowners, has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Ariens Company since 1982. Ariens is a manufacturer of yard and garden maintenance equipment for the homeowner market.
According to Michael S. Ariens, president of Ariens, the Gravely move is necessitated by Ariens' need to reduce its overall manufacturing costs.
"Our goal is to consolidate operations to stay competitive in today's tough outdoor power equipment environment, while providing the international network of Gravely dealers the highest level of quality products and marketing and service support," he said.
"This will be the second move for Gravely in its 76-year history," noted Ariens. "In 1968, Gravely moved to Clemmons from its hometown of Dunbar, W.Va. to take advantage of Clemmons' rich resources in land, labor and support services. Sadly, circumstances now require us to move Gravely away from the strong, fruitful relationships it has known in North Carolina. We know this decision will be hard on many."
While some key Gravely personnel will take advantage of Ariens offers to relocate to Wisconsin, it is expected that as many as 200 local jobs may be effected by the Clemmons plant closing.
Ariens is looking at various alternatives for the disposition of the 100-acre Clemmons site and its 334,400 square foot facility, with a focus on retaining jobs in the community.
