ARIEL: OCTAL T1/E1/PRI COMPACTPCI NETWORK I-FACE CARD SWITCHES 240 PSTN CALLS ON A 6U CARD.
Ariel Corp. (NASDAQ:ADSP), a leading supplier of Microsoft Windows NT and Linux remote access solutions for technical OEMs, recently announced a CompactPCI-based T1/E1/PRI network interface card for designers of high-density, telco-quality network access equipment.The new hot-swappable card, dubbed the RS4100C, features eight T1/E1/PRI network interfaces, which enable it to switch up to 240 PSTN calls (analog, digital or voice) and terminate up to 120 digital calls.
"The RS4100C's robust packaging, high port density, standard interfaces, and programmability make it ideal for designers of high-density, high-availability voice and data processing systems who require E1/T1 connectivity and telco quality," said Ned Viands, product manager for technical OEM products at Ariel Corp. "In addition to packing eight T1/E1/PRI interfaces on a single CompactPCI card, the RS4100C is hot swappable, features standard CompactPCI and H.110 interfaces, and provides four programmable Texas Instruments DSPs."
The RS4100C is equipped with standard CompactPCI and H.110 TDM (Time Division Multiplexed) interfaces, which make it easy to combine the RS4100C with voice, fax, and modem processing cards in a CompactPCI-based network access system. For example, by combining multiple RS4100C network interface cards with MP5000 168-port DSP/modem pools, OEMs can quickly configure high-density network access systems that process up to 1680 modem, ISDN, PHS, or GSM calls in a 12U space.
The T1 version of the RS4100C includes four programmable Texas Instruments TMS320C5410 digital signal processors. These processors are presently used for tone detection in T1 Robbed-Bit Signaling environments. Ariel's plans include providing documentation that shows OEMs how to gain access to these DSP resources. This will enable OEMs to download proprietary or commercial-off-the-shelf software for functions such as vocoders, echo cancellers, speech analysis, data and fax modems, encryption, and many others.
The RS4100C is hot swappable, which maximizes network availability by enabling the board to be inserted and removed from active systems while the system is running without disrupting service. The RS4100C also enhances availability by utilizing a rear panel I/O card that concentrates all cabling in the rear of the chassis. This enables the active front panel card to be quickly inserted and removed without having to plug and unplug cables.
