ARGUS PRESS HOLDINGS INC. ANNOUNCES NAME CHANGE, MERGES TWO SUBSIDIARIES, ADDS 30 JOBS IN ATLANTA

ATLANTA, July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Argus Press Holdings Inc., one of the largest trade publishing groups in the United States, announced plans today to change its name to Argus Inc. effective Aug. 30, 1993, combine two subsidiaries into a new division, and relocate up to 30 employees from Denver to Atlanta.
Headquartered in Atlanta and employing more than 500 people, Argus currently publishes 50 trade magazines having a combined circulation in excess of 2 million, manages 16 trade shows, and owns direct mail operations in Memphis and Nashville, Tenn.
In fiscal 1993 the company's revenues exceeded $65 million.
Argus President Scott A. Smith said, "The changes being announced today are designed to position our company for future growth and clearly identify Argus as one of the largest trade publishing groups in the nation."
Smith said the actions were focused on creating a company that can deal responsively with a changing marketplace.
"By creating a market-driven media business supported by a core of operations, we can grow efficiently without any obstacles and leverage our economies of scale in developing additional revenue opportunities," Smith said.
 'Argus' Stays in New Name
"We are keeping 'Argus' in our new name because it reflects a continuity with the old name. However, 'press holdings' was dropped because it is too limiting and does not reflect our overall business focus," said Smith.
The publishing industry is no longer exclusively magazines and trade shows. Publishing now covers virtually all links between sellers and buyers, Smith said.
 Atlanta, Denver Divisions Merged
Two publishing divisions, Communication Channels Inc. (CCI) in Atlanta and Cardiff Publishing in Denver, will be merged into a new division known as Argus Business. Jerry France, CCI president, will be president of Argus Business.
"By combining the management of all CCI and Cardiff magazines into Argus Business, we expect to serve better individual constituencies while drawing upon the combined resources of the larger group to provide added value to our advertisers and readers," said Smith.
 30 Jobs Added in Atlanta
With the realignment, approximately 30 circulation, accounting and trade show production staff members currently in Denver will relocate to Atlanta by early fall.
However, 48 sales and editorial department staff members currently responsible for publishing 12 business magazines in Denver will remain there.
Significant Denver-based publications include "Communications," the Spanish language "Voz Y Datos," "RF Designs," and "Defense Electronics." The combined circulation of the 12 Denver-based publications exceeds 350,000.
As a result of the realignment, the total number of Argus employees in Atlanta will rise to 237.
Argus will also increase its Atlanta office space by 12,000 square feet, from 48,000 square feet to 60,000 square feet.
Argus's Atlanta-based publications include "Business Atlanta," "National Real Estate Investor," Trusts & Estates" and "Modern Paint & Coatings."
