ARGOSY TO LAUNCH NEW ALTON BELLE

ALTON, Ill., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Argosy Gaming Company (NASDAQ: ARGY), operators of the Alton Belle Casino, the first riverboat gambling casino in Illinois, announced today that it expects to begin operations of a new riverboat gambling casino for the Memorial Day weekend, to replace the existing Alton Belle Casino.
The new three-level cruise liner, also to be called the Alton Belle, will accommodate 1,200 patrons compared to 490 on the current Belle. It is 220 feet long and 66 feet wide.
The new Alton Belle will have the interior design of a Las Vegas casino, combining contemporary lighting, brightly colored carpeting, polished stone and mirrored surfaces and elements from Roman antiquity.
Based on Argosy's experience operating the current Alton Belle, the company has incorporated operating efficiencies in the new boat's design that include placing the count rooms in the ship's hull for added security and efficiency and installing a state of the art ventilation system.
The new cruise liner will initially have 29 blackjack tables, four craps tables, two roulette wheels and a big six wheel. It will have more than 650 slot, video poker and keno machines. The new casino's square footage will be three times larger than that of the current casino.
The new three-level landing facility designed to moor the new Alton Belle will add more than 37,000 square feet to the existing landing and will have a sports and entertainment lounge, a VIP lounge, gift shop, and kiosk food service. The new landing will feature a grand staircase, as well as elevators, allowing the patrons to enter and exit the new cruise liner from two different levels. It will also have enclosed ramp-way connections to the new vessel and the existing landing. The existing landing will offer expanded restaurant and ticketing facilities.
The Alton Belle is expected to leave Jacksonville, Fla. on May 5, ahead of schedule, and arrive in Alton for sea trials, Coast Guard approvals, and final outfitting in mid-May. Barring flood stage conditions on the various waterways and receiving equipment approval by the Illinois Gaming Commission and the Coast Guard, Argosy expects to begin operations for the Memorial Day weekend. The company said operations could be interrupted for two days while the new landing facilities are prepared.
Argosy is evaluating alternative uses for its current riverboat.
