 AREEN ELECTED TO MCI BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Judith Areen, executive vice


president for law affairs of Georgetown University and dean of the law school, has been elected to the board of directors of MCI Communications Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC), the company announced today.
 Areen, who has been on the faculty of Georgetown University since 1972, was selected in 1991 by the National Law Journal as one of the 100 most powerful lawyers in the United States.
 During a leave of absence from Georgetown University, Areen was at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget as project director, and then general counsel to President Carter's Reorganization Project. During the same period, she also served as special counsel to the White House Task Force on Regulatory Reform.
 Areen, a graduate from Cornell University and the Yale Law School, is a senior research fellow of the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, a member of the Executive Committee of the Section on Law, Medicine and Health Care of the Association of American Law Schools and a member of the American Law Institute.
 MCI, with revenue of approximately $10 billion, serves its customers with a variety of domestic and international telecommunications services, including long distance telephone, telex and time sensitive message delivery.
