ARDEN ACQUIRES USE OF NEW BUILDING FROM PMA GROUP
At the Arden Theatre Company's GRANFALLOON Gala Event Saturday

evening, May 16, Frederick W. Anton III, president and CEO of the PMA Group, will announce that the Arden will be acquiring, through a no- cost lease from the PMA Group, the building next door to the Saint Stephen's Alley Performing Arts Centre.
Currently, Arden Theatre Company has maximized space usage in Saint Stephen's Alley. This additional building allows the Arden enhanced support for programming. Anton's announcement will take place at approximately 9:30 p.m. The GRANFALLOON begins at 8 p.m. at the Franklin Institute Science Museum, 20th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Franklin Hall, Philadelphia.
The 919-921 Ludlow Street building contains three floors totalling more than 9,500 square feet of space. It will be renovated to house the Arden's production shop, costume and set storage, rehearsal and classroom space, a lobby and a second mainstage theatre to seat approximately 200 people. The Arden said it foresees welcoming audiences to the new theatre in the fall of '93. Current plans also include combining the first floor lobby area with a gallery showplace for local artists and a cafe/salon for patrons. The Arden will use the theatre to extend successful productions held in the Saint Stephen's Alley and to develop a second stage program. The space will also be made available to other performing arts groups in Philadelphia, therby enhancing Philadelphia's entire cultural community.
Anton and PMA's support of the Arden began during the renovation of Saint Stephen's Alley, and continued with PMA's sponsorship of the Arden's 1991 production of "Working." In addition, Anton has assisted the Arden in special development programs. PMA's allowing the Arden to use the Ludlow Street building is the most impressive capital donation in the Arden's history. "The Arden's work means something to me," said Anton. "We are pleased to enhance the Arden's growth and the potential of the arts in this area by providing the new space. I believe in the Arden. What they do is what theatre is all about."
