ARCTCO ACQUIRES PAINTING AND REACTION INJECTION MOLDING EQUIPMENT:
COMPANY TO BEGIN PRODUCTION OF SNOWMOBILE HOODS IN 1992
THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Arctco, Inc., (NASDAQ: ACAT) today announced that it has purchased industrial painting and reaction injection molding (RIM) equipment from PPD RIM-SPEC Inc. of Quebec, Canada. The equipment will be used by Arctco to produce metton hoods and other parts for the company's Arctic Cat(R) snowmobiles, and possibly for their new line of personal water craft.
The equipment will be installed in a facility in Madison, S.D., subject to the expected lease finalization. Installation will take place during February and March of next year. Production will begin on a limited basis in April 1992.
The company's primary snowmobile manufacturing facilities are located in Thief River Falls, Minn. The Madison site was selected for the new operation because the company did not believe the necessary environmental permits could be finalized in Minnesota in time to allow completion of construction so that production could begin in April of 1992.
Since the company had been purchasing metton products from PPD RIM- SPEC during the past three years, the establishment of the South Dakota plant will not affect current employment levels at Arctco's Thief River Falls facility.
Christopher A. Twomey, Arctco president and chief executive officer, commented, "The purchase of this equipment will allow us to further control and improve the quality of our snowmobiles. It is another example of how Arctco is continuing substantial investment in a line of products that already is recognized as the industry standard.
"We expect to have excess molding and painting capacity at the Madison facility, which we plan to fill with custom work for other manufacturers," added Twomey.
Arctco, Inc., designs, engineers, manufactures and markets a full line of snowmobiles and related parts, garments and accessories under the Arctic Cat and Arcticwear(R) brand names.
