ArcSoft, Fremont, Calif., a digital imaging software company and provider of online photo services (, has introduced PhotoImpression 2000, a multi-platform photo- editing program designed for entry-level users.

Available for both Macintosh and Windows platforms, PhotoImpression 2000 combines the advanced capabilities of professional imaging software with the ease-of-use and affordability demanded by consumers.

The new PhotoImpression 2000 software package, which features one-click uploading and downloading of digital photos to (, ArcSoft's photo-sharing web site, has a suggested retail price of $39.99 and will ship the first quarter of 2000.

"PhotoImpression 2000 lets you easily retouch, add special effects, create photo art, and post your photos to, ArcSoft's photo-sharing web site," said Joseph Bollentini, executive vice president and chief operating officer of ArcSoft. "We've combined features from ArcSoft's most popular programs, including PhotoStudio, PhotoFantasy, PhotoPrinter and MediaBrowser, into a single, easy-to-use package. There's no other imaging program that gives Macintosh and PC users the range of capabilities at this price."

PhotoImpression 2000 provides tools that were previously available only in professional software packages, including the ability to work on distinct, separate elements of an image without affecting the whole picture. This layer feature enables a user to apply a special effect to the sky portion of a landscape photo, for example, without adding that effect to the grass or trees in the image. With PhotoImpression 2000, users can also add text (or edit it at a later time) in various styles, sizes, colors and effects to their photos; remove "red-eye" with a single mouse-click; edit and retouch photos with a suite of tools including Airbrush, Bucket Fill, Clone, Paintbrush and Eraser; incorporate special effects, such as Sketch, Splash, Emboss and Ripple; and make precise adjustments to image Brightness, Contrast, Hue, Sharpness, Tone and saturation.

PhotoImpression 2000 makes it easy to create truly memorable and custom gifts for family and friends. Included are a series of templates that enable combining any digital photo with pre-created art to produce one-of-a-kind calendars, custom greeting cards and more. The templates can be modified, resized or adjusted to suit any need or image. With PhotoImpression 2000's unique "PhotoFantasy" templates, for example, users can merge personal photos with photo fantasy templates of astronauts, rock stars, beauty queens... even a Presidential candidate.

Photos can be further customized by being "inserted" into frames decorated with holiday, birthday, graduation and other designs; or masked in any of a number of shapes, such as heart-shaped, suitable for framing a Valentine's Day photo of a loved one. Users can even add brush stroke edges to their photos for an additional effect.

PhotoImpression 2000 also provides users with the flexibility to print in three different modes: single image, multiple image, and thumbnail printing, which encompass capabilities of ArcSoft's popular PhotoPrinter and MediaBrowser software programs.

At the click of a mouse-button, PhotoImpression 2000 instantly connects the user to photo-related services through the Web site. Here users can easily post and download their images to the Web -- without ever having to leave the program or launch a third-party application. PhotoIsland provides free photo sharing and archiving and offers a large variety of digital imaging products and services.
