ARCO OFFERS $10,000 REWARD IN CITY OF INDUSTRY SHOOTING
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire -- ARCO is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the four men responsible for a shooting and attempted "carjacking" early Saturday morning Oct. 24 at an ARCO am/pm mini market in the City of Industry.
A man and a woman in a Toyota camper truck were parked at the am/pm at 13760 Valley Blvd. (intersection of Workman Mill Road) when they noticed three men standing beside a white Volkswagen Rabbit at about 3:15 a.m. A fourth man, armed with a shotgun, climbed out of the back of the Volkswagen and shouted, "Get out of the truck!" He then fired two rounds at the couple through the closed passenger window after they refused to surrender their truck and were backing out of the station.
The driver of the truck, Mark Garcia, received wounds to the head, neck and hand. He has lost two fingers and may lose a third. His passenger, Denise Perez, lost her right eye, a portion of her nose and part of her lips from the spray of pellets and shattered glass. Three young children sleeping in the back of the camper truck escaped injury.
Though wounded, Garcia was able to drive to a relative's home before calling the police. The four men immediately drove away in their Rabbit (vintage 1977-81).
All four men were described as African-American. The man with the shotgun was further described as 18-20 years old, six-feet tall and weighing about 140 pounds. He had shoulder-length jeri-curled style hair and wore a white T-shirt with black jeans. One of the other accomplices, who opened the back door of the Rabbit to let out the man with the shotgun, is described as 18-20 years old, five-feet eight-inches tall, 175 pounds, and also wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. There is no further description of the other two men.
Anyone with information about this incident should contact Detective Salvatore of the City of Industry Sheriff's Department at 818-330-3322, ext. 274. Any information provided will be handled in confidence.
The reward is being offered through ARCO's Crime Deterrent Program, which since its inception in 1978 has awarded more than $2 million to individuals assisting in solving crimes committed at ARCO facilities.
