ARCO DONATES USED TANK TRUCK TO PIERCE COUNTY, WASH., FIRE DISTRICT NO. 8

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- In support of community volunteers in the Pacific Northwest, ARCO Products Co. has donated a used gasoline delivery transport truck to Pierce County Fire District No. 8, a volunteer group serving a rural area north of Puyallup, Wash. The fire district will retrofit the truck into a water tender for use in fighting fires where no hydrants are available.
At a brief ceremony today in the yard of ARCO's Vinvale Terminal in South Gate, Calif., ARCO Products Co. Vice President Stephen M. Rullo transferred ownership of the 1985-vintage tank truck to the fire district, represented by Lt. Steve D. Pederson and Firefighter Lee Roland. ARCO Products Co. is the refining and marketing arm of ARCO (NYSE: ARC).
"Washington is an important market area for ARCO, as well as home to our Cherry Point Refinery," said Rullo, who heads up ARCO Products Co.'s distribution supply and environmental, health and safety division. "We're pleased to honor the request that came from a dedicated group of community volunteers serving some 10,000 rural residents of that state."
Fire Chief Mark Thompson, who made the request to ARCO, said the 4,600-gallon truck would greatly enhance the fire-fighting capabilities of the 35-volunteer force. The fire district currently operates two fire engines and also owns an older, 1,600-gallon tank truck. The volunteers serve a 7-square-mile unincorporated area of Pierce County.
