ARCHIVE REORGANIZES IRWIN INTO TWO BUSINESS UNITS
COSTA MESA, Calif., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Archive Corporation

(NASDAQ: ACHV), a leading supplier of data storage backup products, today announced the reorganization of Irwin Magnetic Systems, Inc. into two divisions that will separately serve the OEM and distribution markets. At the same time, Archive will combine a number of Irwin operations with Archive's corporate operations and with certain operations of Maynard Electronics, an Archive Company. The reorganization is being made as part of an overall realignment of Archive into market-dedicated organizations that began earlier this year, and also to reduce overall operating costs and expenses.
The Irwin divisions will continue to engineer and market the successful Irwin line of minicartridge tape drives and tape subsystems products under the Irwin and EzTape names and will maintain their facilities in Ann Arbor, Mich., according to D. Howard Lewis, Archive chairman, president and CEO.
"The reorganization will not affect in any way the availability of products and services from Irwin," Lewis said. He added that organizing the company on a market-dedicated basis has allowed for greater focus on meeting the distinct demands of each market segment.
Lewis further noted that the reorganization of Irwin will result in lower operating costs and expenses by combining a number of functions and by streamlining the sales and support staffs. In the reorganization, Irwin's Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) sales and sales support organization will be combined with Archive's corporate OEM sales organization in the U.S. and Europe, and Irwin's distribution sales organization will be combined with Maynard's U.S. and European sales organizations. In addition, Lewis said that several Irwin administrative and support activities are scheduled to be transferred to Archive in Costa Mesa and to Maynard in Lake Mary, Fla.
Lewis also said that John Jones, Irwin president, will leave the company in December and William Miller, one of Archive's founders, will become the general manager of the Irwin OEM Division, reporting to Lewis. Chris Tipton, a Maynard vice president, will be appointed general manager of the Irwin distribution division and will report to George Rea, president of Maynard.
