ARCH PETROLEUM SUBSIDIARY ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF GAS PROCESSING PLANT, ADDITION OF PERSONNEL

FORT WORTH, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Arch Petroleum Inc. (NASDAQ: ARCH) announced that its 50 percent owned subsidiary, Onyx Gathering Company, L.C., had acquired the Taft gas processing plant together with 50 miles of gathering system located in San Patricio County, Texas. Additionally, Arch said that Onyx had completed the construction of its third natural gas pipeline located in San Patricio and Nueces County and was delivering gas through the line.
Onyx supplies natural gas to three electric power plants in South Texas, and has constructed a total of approximately 15 miles of pipeline ranging in size from 8 inches to 12 inches to connect the plants to various sources of gas supply. Onyx has a contract to provide a portion of the base load to the three plants, and competes to supply additional quantities of gas which the plants require.
Onyx also announced the addition of two experienced natural gas professionals effective Aug. 1. William K. Anderson Jr., 29, joined the company as its vice president of gas marketing and will open a Houston gas marketing office for Onyx. Steve Loy joined Onyx in Corpus Christi as its controller. Loy, 38, is a CPA with 12 years of experience in the natural gas industry.
Arch President Larry Kalas noted, "The acquisition of the Taft plant underlines Arch's intention to continue expansion of its interests in the natural gas gathering, processing and transportation industry. Mr. Anderson's experience will allow us to capitalize on the pipeline interchanges at the Taft plant as well as increasing the scope of our gas marketing activities. Onyx's rapid growth allows us to bring in a manager with Mr. Loy's background, which includes gas marketing and dispatching as well as accounting and gas contract administration. We are creating a solid base in order to capitalize on the opportunities which are available to a well financed, aggressive company such as Onyx."
