ARCA ANNOUNCES OPENING OF LOS ANGELES RECYCLING CENTER

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Appliance Recycling Centers of America, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARCI) (ARCA), today announced the formal opening of a major appliance recycling center in Los Angeles.
The company said this new facility will recycle spare, older, energy-inefficient refrigerators as part of a joint energy conservation program sponsored by Southern California Edison (Edison) and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP). With 3.5 million residential customers, Edison is the nation's largest electric utility. The DWP has 1.4 million residential customers, making it the nation's largest municipal utility.
The two utilities have indicated that ARCA will process refrigerators over a three-year period at its Los Angeles facility, the company's tenth recycling center. ARCA will remove and properly manage all environmentally harmful substances from each unit, including chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and mercury.
The company said the new Los Angeles center is expected to have a significant positive impact on its operating results starting in the first quarter of 1994.
ARCA provides a comprehensive range of environmentally sound recycling services for major household appliances. ARCA is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol ARCI.
