ARCA, INC. SELECTED TO PROVIDE SERVICES FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON COMPANY

MINNEAPOLIS, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Appliance Recycling Centers of American, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARCI) (ARCA) today announced that the company has been selected to provide services for Southern California Edison Company through the utility's new energy management program. ARCA will collect, process, and recycle surplus operating refrigerators turned in by the utility's residential electric customers. The selection of ARCA by Southern California Edison Company is subject to completion of contract preparation and requires final approval from the California Public Utilities Commission.
Southern California Edison Company and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power have undertaken a cooperative implementation effort for this demand-side management program. In April, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power announced that it had chosen ARCA to provide appliance recycling services for the utility's residential electric customers. The selection of ARCA by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is subject to completion of contract preparation and requires final approval from the Board of Water and Power Commissioners and confirmation by the Los Angeles City Council.
The services for both utility companies will be provided by a subsidiary which is 80 percent owned by ARCA and 20 percent by Southern California business interests. Upon completion of contract negotiations and approvals, the company will commence the operation of a new center in the Los Angeles area.
ARCA provides comprehensive appliance recycling services throughout the United States and Canada. The focus of the company's business is large-scale collection and processing of unwanted major household appliances in an environmentally sound manner.
