ARBY'S FORMS LONG-TERM PROMOTIONAL PARTNERSHIP WITH TURNER HOME ENTERTAINMENT FOR HANNA-BARBERA CHARACTERSd

Yogi and Friends Adventure Meal Kicks Off in June
MIAMI, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Yogi Bear and other Hanna-Barbera

characters are coming to Arby's restaurants nationwide this summer.
Through an exclusive promotional licensing agreement with Turner Home Entertainment (T.H.E.), Arby's, Inc. will develop the Hanna-Barbera properties over a period of time. This represents the first of a series of new campaigns developed by T.H.E. which incorporates a new marketing strategy supporting the coveted characters.
In June, Arby's will introduce an Adventure Meal premium program surrounding "Yogi and Friends," an animated strip series to premier in national syndication this fall. The show features Yogi Bear, his sidekick, Boo Boo, and a host of their cartoon cohorts such as Huckleberry Hound and Quick Draw McGraw.
Kids nationwide will be able to satisfy their un"bear"able hunger while using eye-catching Yogi Bear picnic baskets and cup-toppers. Other Hanna-Barbera characters will be showcased in subsequent promotions on an ongoing basis during a two-year period.
Arby's will also develop innovative programs such as community-based public service campaigns surrounding the environment and in-school literacy campaigns using the Hanna-Barbera characters. Point-of-sale material will also use the characters.
"Arby's prides itself on providing a wholesome, high-quality Adventure Meal program for kids," said Lloyd Fritzmeier, president and chief executive officer of Arby's Franchise Association (AFA), Arby's national marketing services company. "In addition to providing a nutritious alternative to hamburgers, Arby's partnership with the delightful and wholesome Hanna-Barbera characters allows parents to feel good about choosing Arby's for their children."
"We plan to use the characters as part of an overall strategy to increase Arby's share in the youth market," said Joe Langteau, senior vice president of operations for the fast food chain. "Because Arby's is a favorite among families with children, we're exploring other meal alternatives including a healthier kid's meal that substitutes Mott's applesauce and 2 percent milk for the traditional fries and soft drink. This will be introduced in July with the new Hanna-Barbera Adventure Meal program."
"Our tie-in with Arby's will ensure high-quality, broad-scale exposure for our unparalleled Hanna-Barbera properties," said Lois Sloane, executive vice president of worldwide licensing and merchandising for T.H.E. "The participation of restaurants, communities and schools makes it a truly integrated promotion that also will facilitate tremendous goodwill."
T.H.E. is the worldwide licensing and merchandising, home-video, theatrical, pay-per-view and in-flight entertainment division of Atlanta-based Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (AMEX: TBS).
Arby's is the world's largest roast beef sandwich chain, with approximately 2,600 restaurants in the United States, Canada, Asia, the Middle East, Mexico and the Caribbean. Arby's recently announced plans to develop 50 restaurants in the United Kingdom. In 1992, the company reached a record $1.5 billion in sales. Founded in 1964 with 20 employees, Arby's today has 75,000 employees worldwide and commitments for a total of 3,150 restaurants. Headquartered in Miami, Arby's is ranked as an industry leader in areas such as technology, product development, nutritional and consumer information, and community service.
