ARA SERVICES TO OPEN GEORGE'S ARENA GRILL AT SAN JOSE ARENA THIS WEEK; GENERAL MANAGER SAYS LUNCHES WILL BE RESTAURANT'S MAINSTAY

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- ARA Services will officially open the new George's Arena Grill restaurant to the general public beginning today, Wednesday, Sept. 15.
Located on the club level of the new San Jose Arena, George's Arena Grill will serve lunch daily (Monday through Friday) between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Dinners at the new restaurant will be available to ticket holders of Arena events and to club members during Sharks hockey games.
Because of the special City Open House at the Arena this weekend (Sept. 17 through 19), George's Arena Grill will also be open for lunch and early dinner on Saturday and Sunday.
Named for Sharks owner George Gund, George's Arena Grill will feature a full, California-style menu of steaks, seafood, chops and pasta in a contemporary setting. "George's will not be a typical sports bar," said Jay Smith, general manager for ARA at the Arena. "The grill is very open with lots of light. It should be perfect for people downtown who want fast, fine dining for lunches with clients and friends. Sure, we have closed circuit TV for people to enjoy during the games, but we also have an executive chef who has joined us from the four-star Carnelian Room in San Francisco."
The four-star chef is Jurgen Pauer, a native of Austria and a former cruise ship chef. As the number two chef at The Carnelian Room (also an ARA restaurant), Pauer was responsible for creating new dishes and managing the service for up to 500 guests. Although Pauer said he's not ready to reveal his signature dishes for George's just yet, he did say that he will be using all California products. Smith added that guests can expect to find great grilled selections at George's while enjoying the restaurant's more casual, club feeling.
Part of the club feeling can be attributed to George's exhibition kitchen in the center of the restaurant where diners can watch Pauer and his staff at work. In addition, the restaurant features light woods, stainless steel and "lots of glass," which help create George's upscale, contemporary look, according to Smith.
ARA Services is the concession and novelty services manager for the San Jose Arena. In addition to George's Arena Grill, ARA operates a number of other full-service restaurants -- The Carnelian Room in San Francisco and Ovations in Philadelphia, Atwater's in Portland and membership clubs in Baltimore, Atlanta, Arlington, Texas, the Superdome in New Orleans, and Igloo at the Pittsburgh Arena.
ARA Leisure Services manages food and concessions for NHL arenas and Major League Baseball stadiums nationwide and in Canada.
