ARA SERVICES ELECTS AVON CHAIRMAN TO BOARD POST

 PHILADELPHIA, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- James E. Preston, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Avon Products, Inc., has been elected to ARA's board of directors.
 Avon is the world's leading direct seller and marketer of beauty and related products with $3.8 billion in annual revenues and 1.7 million independent representatives in more than 100 countries. Avon is also the world's largest manufacturer of fashion jewelry, and markets an extensive line of gifts and collectibles.
 Preston, who joined Avon in 1964, held a variety of management positions in marketing, personnel and operations before being elected president and chief operating officer in 1988. Later that same year, Preston was named chief executive officer and in 1989 assumed the additional responsibility of chairman of the board.
 In addition to serving on the board of ARA Services, Preston is a director of F.W. Woolworth Company. Preston is also a member of the board of the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association and the Fragrance Foundation, of which he also serves as treasurer.
 Preston serves on the boards of the Business Council of New York State, the American Women's Economic Development Corporation and The Salvation Army of Greater New York Advisory Board. He is chairman of the Direct Selling Education Foundation and past chairman of the Direct Selling Association and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association.
 ARA Services is a privately held, international, diversified service management company with nearly $5 billion in annual sales. The company is one of the largest employers in the United States with services ranging from food service and uniform services to health care, child care and magazine and book distribution.
