ARA BRINGS TASTE OF OLYMPICS TO DETROIT AREA
DETROIT, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Most of Detroit's businesspeople and

administrators probably won't find time to compete in the 1992 Olympic Summer Games in Barcelona.
No matter what kind of shape they're in.
But if they're guests of ARA Services, they will get a chance to sample the Olympic experience.
ARA is the official food service manager of the Barcelona Games. They will present a preview of the international cuisine that will be served to the world's finest athletes this summer at a dinner for clients, prospects and guests Thursday, May 21, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
ARA/Cory Refreshment Services President Bill Edmundson said the dinner, which will be held at Masco Corporation, 21001 Vanborn Road in Taylor, Mich., will feature a sampling of the international foods that will be served to the 15,000 athletes, coaches and staff members from 165 nations that will be participating in the Games.
According to Edmundson, the typical Olympic Games menu will include seven hot entrees, two soups, grilled items, a salad bar, an abundance of vegetables and starches, as well as a wide selection of breads, fruits and desserts. ARA will play an integral part in the food service operations which include serving nearly 2.5 million meals during the 1992 Summer Games.
A typical Olympic athlete consumes an average of 5,000 calories a day, Edmundson said, although some weightlifters may consume up to 8,000 calories a day.
Serving the athletes in Barcelona won't be a new job for the company. ARA provided the food service at the 1968 Olympic Summer Games in Mexico City, the 1976 Summer Games in Montreal, the 1984 Winter Games in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles, the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary, Canada, and the 1988 Summer Games in Seoul, Korea.
Edmundson said ARA's grocery list for the Barcelona Games is a "mammoth one," including 500,000 pounds of meat and poultry, 550,000 pounds of fruit, 50,000 gallons of milk, and 110,000 loaves of bread.
ARA is a privately held, international diversified service management company with nearly $5 billion in annual sales. The company, based in Philadelphia, provides a variety of services in addition to food service, including health care, child care, uniform rental, building maintenance, and periodical distribution.
