The award is presented by the Minor Counties Cricket Association to the batsman with the highest average throughout the country in the three-day MCCA Championship.
Young's statistics for the 2012 season were 403 runs at an average of 67.33, which included centuries against Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.
The trophy was presented by the MCC Head of Cricket John Stevenson.
Young is only the third Northumberland player to receive this prestigious award since its inception in 1956 following in the footsteps of R W (Bobby) Smithson in 1960 and Gary Scott in 2009.
Young, who is a former RGS Newcastle pupil and cricket captain, made his full Northumberland debut in 2011 after playing for their various agegroup teams since he was 11. He started his club career with Alnwick and Eglingham before moving to Tynemouth for three seasons.
He plays for Benwell Hill in the Dukes North East Premier League and is in his final year at Leeds Metropolitan University, where he is a member of the Leeds /Bradford MCCU universities squad.

Former junior players have been promoted from within to spearhead the winter coaching sessions ahead of this summer's packed campaign.
ECB Level Two coach Adrian McLean, assisted by Level One coach Nathan Collins, will oversee the under-nine and under-11 sessions from February 7. Hosted by Blyth Community College, training runs from 6.00 to 7.30.
Under-13 and under-15 players should attend Gosforth Academy sessions on Tuesdays from 7.00-9.00.
Training starts on January 15 and will be overseen by ECB Level Two coach James Morgan assisted by Level One coaches Tom Race and Andrew Welford. Boys and girls are welcome with everyone from beginners to experienced juniors catered for.
