APPROVAL RATINGS REFLECT CLINTON'S MARATHON OF MAALOX MOMENTS(TM)

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Following is the text of a letter dated Aug. 18 from Senior Vice President and General Manager of Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Pharmaceuticals Inc. Gary Downing to President Bill Clinton:
 President Bill Clinton
 The White House
 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
 Washington, DC 20501
 Dear Mr. President:
As you complete your first six months in office, we felt the burning desire to applaud your ability to manage every Maalox Moment(TM) you've encountered in your presidency. From cabinet appointments to Supreme Court nominations, you've faced both triumph and frustration. Your valiant efforts to lead our great nation into the 21st century have led to enough stress to light an eternal flame of acid indigestion in you stomach!
While this may have put a dent in the four-year supply of Maalox(R) you received in January, we have elected to relieve you further with a "Maalox Moments(TM) Survival Kit." And for fun on those morning jogs, we've included a Maalox Moments(TM) sweatshirt and cap.
Your term so far has seen many victories and a great deal of change. In addition, there have been those inevitable Maalox Moments(TM). From passing your budget to reforming healthcare, from dilemmas about private education to foreign intervention, you have earned both praise and criticism from our nation and the world. This has led to a roller coaster of approval ratings varying from 37 up to 59. Despite this, you have zealously taken on each challenge you faced. With each day comes the need to reach for that bottle of Maalox(R)!
Mr. President, please remember that it's all worth the effort. After all, those Maalox Moments(TM) only last a moment -- but the impact of your contributions can last for years.
 Sincerely,
 /s/Gary Downing
Senior Vice President and General Manager
