Technologies (AST) Inc., Chalfont, Pa., today announced its merger with The DATA Group Corp., Burlington, Mass. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. AST and The DATA Group provide integrated solutions to customer/field service operations in the areas of service call management, distribution and logistics, financial management, and business forecasting. The companies' primary customers are providers of high-tech equipment for the computing, electronics, medical instruments, telecommunications, and electronic office equipment markets.
The service management market is potentially one of the high- growth software application industries of the 1990s. Zack Bergreen, president and founder of AST, is the president and CEO of the new organization. "We have two immediate goals for our new venture," said Bergreen. "The first is to assure our customers of uninterrupted service and support during and after the initial merger activities. Looking beyong this, our goal is to use our position as the preeminent supplier of service management software to leverage expansion into other markets, and to strengthen our presence in the broader distribution and logistics application market."
By combining the current product lines and consulting services of AST and The DATA Group, the new organization can offer service managers a broad range of open systems and proprietary software solutions to automate their internal operations. The new organization will offer products available on a variety of platforms, including high-end mainframes and minicomputer systems from Digital Equipment Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., and International Business Machines Corp., UNIX-based systems, and PC-based networks utilizing fourth-generation languages with emerging client/server architectures and relational databases from Ingres, Oracle, Progress, SYBASE, and other vendors.
