APPLIED RESEARCH CORPORATION TO PARTICIPATE IN $685 MILLION CONTRACT
 LANDOVER, Md., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Applied Research Corporation (PHLX: ARL.X) announced today that as a teammate of Hughes Information Technology Company, it will share in a NASA contract to Hughes for the development and fielding of the Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS). Hughes' proposed cost and fee is $685 million, and Applied Research Corporation anticipates negotiating a contract of approximately $25 million with performance extending through 2003. NASA said it expects to award the contract in January 1993.
 The award of this contract will represent the largest contract received by Applied Research Corporation since the company's inception 13 years ago. EOSDIS is the centerpiece of NASA's Mission to Planet Earth, a pivotal part of the U.S. Global Change Research Program. EOSDIS will allow scientists to access data about the Earth system quickly and easily. The EOSDIS remote sensing data system will provide usable scientific information to a broad spectrum of geophysical, biogeochemic, ecological and interdisciplinary science communities.
 Applied Research Corporation is a high technology company specializing in research and development, technical support services and software development. The company's strengths are in the atmospheric sciences, space sciences, geophysics and computer-related services.
