APPLIED RESEARCH CORPORATION SUBSIDIARY AND JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY ENTER LICENSING ARRANGEMENT FOR OPTICAL SOFTWARE

 LANDOVER, Md., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Applied Research Corporation (PHLX: ARL.X) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, ARSoftware Corporation, has negotiated an exclusive worldwide licensing arrangement with the Applied Physics Laboratory of the Johns Hopkins University of Laurel, Md., to market and distribute OPTIMATR Version 3.1, an IBM PC and compatible software product that calculates the optical properties of materials. OPTIMATR calculates index of refraction, absorption coefficient and scatter in materials (insulators, semiconductors and metals) as a function of wave number and temperature. Following extensive beta testing and user enhancement additions, OPTIMATR is scheduled to be released Feb. 15, 1993, and will retail for $495 U.S.
 OPTIMATR is the second exclusive worldwide licensing agreement negotiated by ARSoftware in as many weeks, joining ORBIT WORKS as an addition to their growing family of scientific and engineering software.
