APPLICON ANNOUNCES CONTRACTS TOTALING $3.5 MILLION FOR BRAVO RELEASE
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Applicon has been awarded three sales totaling more than $3.5 million for its just-announced Bravo(R) Version 4.0 suite of software products. Figgie International (NASDAQ-NMS: FIGI) has signed a $2 million contract, Philip Morris (NYSE: MO) a $1 million contract, and the Los Alamos National Laboratory a $500,000 contract.
Headquartered in Cleveland, Figgie has 25 manufacturing divisions located worldwide, including Rawlings Sporting Goods, Automatic Sprinkler Systems and American LaFrance. Bravo's modeling and data management applications will be installed in five of Figgie's divisions within the first year.
Jim Geck, Figgie's CAD/CAM group manager, cited key factors that resulted in selection of Applicon: the flexibility of Bravo's modeling capability of solids, surfaces, and wireframe; its integration capability; and its total information management solution.
Philip Morris Engineering Services of the United Kingdom, a division of Philip Morris International, will use Bravo's complete electromechanical and data management solution for its machinery manufacturing operation. The company designs, rebuilds and installs machinery and supplies parts for nearly 40 cigarette manufacturing factories throughout the world. Bravo will replace Philip Morris' existing nine-seat AutoCAD system.
Mike Lewis, Philip Morris engineering manager, said influences in the buying decision were Applicon's consulting program, Bravo's link between mechanical and electrical design, and its capabilities in managing engineering databases.
The Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, N.M., will install Bravo, emphasizing mechanical design and data management. The Lab is a multidisciplinary research organization that applies science and technology to problems of national security, ranging from defense to energy research. The 50-year-old Lab is operated by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy.
Applicon President Brad Morley said: "The key influencing factors evident in most of our new sales are the flexibility of Bravo's modeling capability, its integration capability, and its total information management solution. This reflects positively on our aggressive five- year product plan, of which Bravo Version 4.0 is the first release. The plan charts Applicon's path to technological leadership with a system that provides solutions to the management of the engineering processes."
Applicon is a subsidiary of Schlumberger Technologies, a division of the $6 billion, multinational Schlumberger Limited (NYSE: SLB), which has more than 53,000 employees operating in 75 countries on every continent.
Schlumberger has a $407 million global research and development network with facilities in North America, Europe and Asia.
