 LONDON, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Apple Computer UK launches Assist, a club for customers who have purchased the Apple Newton MessagePad or Sharp Newton ExpertPad. Assist will help customers to get the most from their Newton and discover its full capabilities. Assist membership costs 35 pounds a year.
 Clive Girling, Newton product manager at Apple Computer, PIE Division comments: "Assist will help both MessagePad and ExpertPad owners to be part of a growing community and will provide them with valuable information to help increase the value of their Newton. We will provide members with special offers, new product updates and information, a newsletter called Stylus, as well as tips and hints from other members."
 Assist - Exclusive Special Offers
 As a subscriber to Assist, users will be offered special services and exclusive products. In addition, members will be the first to learn about special offers on Newton hardware and software.
 Assist - Preferential Helpline Service
 Everyone who purchases a Newton MessagePad has one year's free access to the Newton Helpline. In addition, members of Assist will be given an Assist Helpline number, which recognises the status of Assist members and ensures preferential service.
 Assist - Regular MessagePad Updates
 Membership of Assist includes automatic subscription to "Stylus," a regular newsletter that gives members the latest news direct from Apple. It covers product reviews, a Q&A page, software listing, a wealth of tips and advice, as well as details of special offers available exclusively to subscribers. Stylus is written in a style that is free of jargon and technospeak.
 A special introductory offer to new members of Assist is a free Newton Car Adaptor (worth 35 pounds) and some free software (details to be announced).
 By connecting the adaptor to a car cigarette lighter socket, users can run the Newton off the car battery instead of the Newton's built-in power source. Alternatively, the car battery can be used to recharge the MessagePad's rechargeable batteries.
