APPLE STANDARDIZES ON PILLAR ENTERPRISE-WIDE BUDGETING SOFTWARE:
APPLE TO USE FYPLAN WORLDWIDE FOR CORPORATE BUDGETING AND PLANNING
FOSTER CITY, Calif., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Apple Computer, Inc. announced today that it has chosen FYPlan, Pillar Corporation's enterprise-wide budgeting software, as the standard financial planning tool for all its domestic and international sites. Standardizing on FYPlan will enable Apple to better manage company expense by improving the efficiency and timeliness of the planning and budgeting process.
Joseph Graziano, Apple Computer's chief financial officer, commented, "The decision to select FYPlan for implementation throughout Apple was a natural. In today's competitive market, the ability to analyze timely, reliable cost information is imperative to making accurate business decisions."
Under the terms of the agreement, Apple has the right to use FYPlan worldwide. Apple estimates that it will have more than 1,000 FYPlan users when installation is complete.
Apple plans to implement FYPlan during fiscal 1993, and all divisions will use the product for the 1994 planning cycle.
"Apple's selection of FYPlan is a practical example of the move toward downsizing and enterprise applications on networked computers," said Ken Ross, president and CEO of Pillar Corporation. FYPlan Meets Apple's Criteria
Apple had three main criteria for evaluating budgeting systems. FYPlan, an integrated financial planning application designed specifically for developing annual budgets and rolling forecasts, met all three. Using FYPlan, Apple can:
-- Gain the participation of more line managers, without the aid of finance managers. FYPlan has a multiple-user, distributed architecture that allows managers at all levels to participate in the planning process. A graphical user interface (GUI) complete with pop-up menu and multiple on-screen windows makes data manipulation and reporting a simple point-and-click process.
-- Standardize on one budgeting tool for the entire company. FYPlan is a fully integrated database. All the facilities needed for the budgeting and planning are preprogrammed and integrated into one software package. Facilities include sales, expense and capital planning, complex business modeling, rollup algorithms, P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements. Powerful import and export capabilities allow FYPlan to exchange information with diverse data sources such as accounting systems, marketing databases, personnel files and spreadsheets.
-- Create a better financial plan. Because FYPlan is an integrated database, not a spreadsheet, users can manipulate plan details any way they want and quickly see the results in integrated P& L, balance sheet and cash flow statements -- without worrying about incorrect calculations. Or, managers can look at the big picture from integrated financials and manage the detail by "drilling down" to backup reports that incorporate line item detail.
Apple, which operates a decentralized environment, looks for consent from all divisions before standardizing on any product. FYPlan is already used by Apple's five manufacturing sites, as well as by U.S. sales and U.S.A.-southern operations. Apple Europe purchased FYPlan in May and is currently using it for its 1993 planning cycle. After unanimous acceptance from all current Apple users of FYPlan, Apple signed the site license for FYPlan.
Prices for FYPlan start at $19,500 for a five-user system; additional users start at $500.
