 APPLE APPOINTS NEW MOSCOW-BASED DISTRIBUTOR
MOSCOW, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Apple Europe division of Apple

Computer Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) announced today that it has appointed RUI as its new Independent Marketing Company (IMC) in the former USSR. RUI will be responsible for the sale and marketing of Apple products in Russia, Byelorussia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Armenia.
RUI, a recently incorporated company with its main office in Moscow, replaces Apple's former distributor, Intermicro, whose contract with Apple expired Sept. 30. Intermicro will continue to sell and support Apple products as a value added reseller for RUI.
RUI is headed by general manager James Guidi who in early 1990 founded Apple's Independent Marketing Company for Czechoslovakia, TIS, now one of Apple's more successful distributors in Eastern Europe. "The key to success in developing new markets lies in the implementation of Apple's strategy by a local team of professionals with expertise and understanding of the local market," says Guidi.
Guidi's management team is headed by Nicolaj Fedoulov, sales division manager for Large and Institutional Accounts, and former vice president of Merisel Russia.
RUI will provide customers with the full range of service and support for Apple's products. "The full localization of the Macintosh Operating System, including the most recent system software System 7, the keyboards and the manuals, as well as the use of high quality local language fonts in Russian enables users and customers to take full advantage of the Macintosh technology," says James Guidi.
The availability of Russian language solutions and Apple products spurred Apple's sales in several sectors, such as car manufacturing, business and publishing, during the first year of distribution of Apple products in the Russian market.
Apple plans to continue to expand its presence in the former USSR by also appointing distributors in other republics.
RUI is located at 8, Moskvina Street, 103772 Moscow Russia.
NOTE: Apple, the Apple logo and Macintosh are registered trademarks and System 7 is a trademark of Apple Computer Inc.
