APPLE ANNOUNCES NEW MATH & SCIENCE CURRICULUM INTEGRATION GUIDE AT NECC '92
DALLAS, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Education division of Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) today introduced an Apple Macintosh computer-based curriculum integration guide for math and science teachers that uses Apple's QuickTime technology to demonstrate 27 leading software solutions for K-12 math and physical/life sciences curricula.
The Apple Math & Science Curriculum Integration Guide, a CD-ROM-based interactive reference tool designed to run on any Apple Macintosh color system that supports QuickTime, features more than 60 QuickTime video demonstrations that allow teachers to control selected software material. The CD also includes built-in help features and QuickTime vignettes of educators commenting on the benefits of each software program.
According to Kenyon Scott, manager of Math and Science Market Development for Apple Computer, the CD reference tool was designed "to show educators that the 27 software solutions can assist them in teaching a range of math and science concepts, as well as support interdisciplinary teaching techniques."
Scott added that the guide provides teachers with a better understanding of how the software programs can be utilized in a classroom, how to use the same application to teach several subjects, or how to apply the solutions across an entire curriculum. "The guide clearly demonstrates how these solutions can be applied across a curriculum, ranging from simple arithmetic to zoology," said Scott. System Requirements and Availability
The Apple Math & Science Curriculum Integration Guide requires any color Macintosh system that supports QuickTime, a CD-ROM drive, at least 4MB of RAM, HyperCard 2.1, and System 6.0.7 (running MultiFinder) or System 7.
QuickTime is a Macintosh system software extension that allows users to integrate dynamic media -- such as sound, video and animation -- in a consistent, seamless fashion across all applications.
Scott said that the Apple Math & Science Curriculum Integration Guide is the first offering in a planned series of curriculum guides for K-12 subject areas.
Apple will provide the guide to educators attending the NECC Conference (booth 214); and distribute the guide to education customers via its education account executives and through its network of Apple Education Sales Consultants (AESCs) across the United States. Apple is also investigating additional distribution methods to reach educators across the country.
Headquartered in Cupertino, Calif., Apple Computer Inc. is a leading manufacturer of advanced personal computer systems, system software, peripherals and networking products for education, business, government and the home.
