 APPLE ANNOUNCES EDUCATION/BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM
 DALLAS, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Education division of Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) today announced a special partnership program that allows educational institutions and businesses to join together to purchase specially configured bundles of computer hardware, software and curriculum materials for schools across the United States.
 According to Sue Collins, senior manager of Strategic Initiatives and Education Reform for Apple Computer, the Apple Education/Business Partnership Program was developed to foster alliances between schools and businesses and provide each partner with the tools and materials needed to build an effective partnership. "With school/business partnerships enjoying a period of unprecedented popularity and growth, Apple believes it can make a significant contribution to the education reform movement by offering a special program that benefits both the school and the business partner," said Collins.
 Collins added that Apple's contribution of the partnership planning model, and the step-by-step guides for schools and businesses seeking to forge effective, long-term alliances will greatly assist education reform initiatives across the country.
 The Apple Education/Business Partnership Program features a comprehensive kit of information and tools that provide step-by-step guides for establishing and sustaining a partnership. The key components of the kit are:
 -- "Becoming Partners" -- a practical, 32-page step-by-step guide for setting up and sustaining partnerships;
 -- "Building Effective Partnerships" -- a 36-page primer with background on the concept of education/business partnerships, outcomes for effective partnerships, and references for getting started;
 -- Development Tools disk -- contains tools for creating partnership proposals and planning documents; a proposal writing tool that uses Apple's HyperCard application; and examples of actual partnership charters, proposals and planning documents;
 -- The Program Information disk -- a computer-based information resource about the special purchase program, bundle specifications, order forms and price lists.
 The Apple Education/Business Partnership Program features a series of specially configured hardware and software bundles designed for kindergarten through 12th-grade and higher education, including primary learning/language arts, math, science and student productivity. Each bundle includes the appropriate Apple Macintosh computer systems, peripherals, and software programs specifically designed for each grade level. The program also includes special hardware/software bundles for teachers and administrators.
 Collins noted that the special bundles of hardware, software and curriculum materials offer excellent opportunities as first projects for partnerships for several reasons. "Technology meets a common need by providing a basic tool for both learning and working," said Collins, "so program partners can enjoy immediate success with technology as a first project because the bundles are designed for quick, easy assembly and can be put to work right away."
 Many of the leading educational software solutions providers are participating in Apple's special program for assisting education reform. They include: AccuLab Products Group; Aldus Corp.; Broderbund Software Inc.; CE Software Inc.; Claris Corp.; Great Wave Software; The Learning Company: MECC; Mountain Lake Software; The Software Toolworks; South-Western Publishing Co.; TECHBYTE International Inc.; and WINGS for Learning Inc.
 The Apple Education/Business Partnership Program bundles are available for purchase by any business, trade or civic organization, public/education foundation or charitable trust that has established a partnership with an educational institution. Although the program is designed to encourage long-term partnerships, any qualified organization can purchase bundles for an education institution without committing to a partnership.
