 APPLE AND IBM NAME CHIEF EXECUTIVE, BOARD FOR KALEIDA
 LOS ANGELES, June 23 /PRNewswire--Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)and IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced the appointment of the chief executive officer and the board of directors for Kaleida. Established as a joint venture between Apple and IBM, Kaleida is a key component in the two companies' sweeping October 1991 technology alliance. Kaleida, which will operate as an independent venture with its own board, will develop and promote new multimedia software technologies that will span the computer, personal electronics, and communications industries.
 The companies announced that A. Nathaniel Goldhaber was named president and chief executive officer of Kaleida. Goldhaber, 44, is a principal in Cole Gilburne Goldhaber & Ariyoshi Management Inc. in Berkeley, Calif., a venture capital firm focused on high-technology development. He sits on the boards of Shiva Corp. and ON Technology. Before becoming a venture capitalist, Goldhaber was president and founder of TOPS, a local area networking company.

"Nat Goldhaber and the board bring a wide spectrum of backgrounds and experiences to the company -- just the right mix to lead the industry's march into the future."

"Kaleida will give customers a chance to cut through the confusion of competing standards. With common software specifications and exciting new products, we can start to fulfill the huge potential of multimedia."
 IBM and Apple also announced today the formation of Kaleida's board of directors, which is composed of an equal number of Apple and IBM representatives. Appointed to the board were the following:
 -- Robert L. Carberry, assistant general manager, Technology, IBM Personal Systems line of business.
 -- Albert A. Eisenstat, secretary and executive vice president, Apple Computer.
 -- Nubuo Mii, IBM vice president and general manager, Entry Systems Technology, IBM Personal Systems line of business.
 -- David C. Nagel, senior vice president, Advanced Technology Group, Apple Computer.
 As Kaleida's CEO, Goldhaber will also be a member of the board.
 Kaleida is forming its executive team and hopes to announce additional executives in the next 30 days. The company will initially start business in Cupertino until a permanent location in the San Francisco Bay Area is found and will form with about 35 employees.
