APPLE'S HEINEN ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION

CUPERTINO, Calif., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: AAPL) announced that Roger Heinen, senior vice president and general manager of Apple's Macintosh Software Architecture Division (MSAD), has resigned to take a position with Microsoft Corp. as vice president of Database and Development Tools.
MSAD develops and markets the Macintosh software operating environment, architecture, developer tools, components and services for Apple Macintosh users and developers worldwide.
Michael Spindler, Apple's president and chief operating officer, will act as general manager of the group, working closely with senior MSAD managers to implement existing strategy until a replacement is named. Heinen's resignation is effective immediately.
"Roger has put together a strong team of leaders and a sound strategy for the Macintosh Software Architecture division, making it one of the most technically adept and innovative organizations in the industry," Spindler said. "With a winning strategy in place, we are confident that the MSAD organization has the senior technical expertise and leadership to keep the Macintosh computer on the leading edge of personal computing technology. We wish Roger well in his new endeavor at one of our leading developers."
Heinen's software team created System 7, Apple's advanced system software for Macintosh computers. Other major developments coming out of the MSAD organization during Heinen's tenure include QuickTime, which enables users to work with video, sound and high-quality color still images as easily as they cut, copy and paste text and graphics.
Heinen joined Apple in January 1990 after 17 years at Digital Equipment Corp.
