APERTUS INTRODUCES FIRST PLATFORM TO OFFER HIGH CAPACITY NETWARE-FOR-SAA SUPPORT ON ONE SERVER

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Apertus Technologies Incorporated (NASDAQ: APTS) today introduced the first high-capacity, high-availability platform for consolidating multiple NetWare-for- SAA(TM) gateways at the IBM channel using a single server. Apertus' enhanced Datastar/DataCenter Hub offers the industry's highest mainframe session capacity with up to 3,500 sessions available on a single server, compared to alternative systems limited to 508 sessions per server. This connectivity enhancement allows companies to improve productivity and cost-efficiency, and facilitates network management and modifications.
"As businesses move from centralized to distributed processing systems, IS managers are faced with the challenge of sustaining a communications link to the mission-critical data and applications locked in their legacy systems," said Robert Gordon, chairman and chief executive officer of Apertus. "Apertus' DataCenter Hub equipped with NetWare-for-SAA modules provides IS managers with a real-world solution for addressing the capacity and management needs of large enterprise computing environments today."
Apertus' DataCenter Hub is a high performance gateway system that enables access to IBM mainframe resources from multiprotocol LANs. Built on Apertus' unique switch-based technology, the DataCenter Hub offers concurrent multiprotocol support of IPX, TCP/IP and SNA while increasing network reliability and performance. Its modular design facilitates cost-effective network expansions by enabling companies to simply add a module to the Datastar cabinet.
One company benefiting from Apertus' enhanced DataCenter Hub with NetWare-for-SAA is Telkom South Africa, a provider of telecommunications and information systems services to South Africa. Telkom SA has a network of 30,000 multiprotocol PCs and workstations supporting TCP/IP, OSI and IPX requiring access to IBM hosts. Telkom SA selected the DataCenter Hub with NetWare-for-SAA support to provide reliable IPX-to- SNA connectivity for IPX users on this network.
"The DataCenter Hub provides our users with optimum uptime," said Attie van der Linde, manager of network operations for Telkom South Africa. "In addition, our MIS people are especially pleased with the system's stability, reliability and ease-of-use."
Apertus' DataCenter Hub NetWare-for-SAA module is available now and includes an i486 MHz processor, up to five EISA slots per module for LAN connectivity, and scalable memory and storage options. Hardware pricing ranges from $19,500 to $95,000, depending on system configuration. Customers interested in learning more should call 800-888-1967.
