APERTUS EXTENDS DATACENTER HUB TO SUPPORT NETWARE-TO-IBM HOST CONNECTIVITY; UP TO 3500 CHANNEL CONNECTED SESSIONS SUPPORTED PER SYSTEM

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Apertus Technologies Incorporated (NASDAQ: APTS) a leading provider of internetworking products, today announced an integrated NetWare for SAA module for its DataCenter Hub product. With the availability of this module, companies will be able to consolidate up to 3500 NetWare for SAA sessions into a single, channel-attached system, resulting in easier, more cost- effective control and management of the network.
The DataCenter Hub, a product of Apertus' Internetworking Group is a high performance communications system that allows data center managers and network administrators to efficiently manage access to IBM mainframe resources from multi-protocol LANs. Built on highly reliable switch- based technology, the DataCenter Hub offers concurrent multi-protocol support (IPX, TCP/IP and SNA) in a single system. Its modular design allows users to easily expand and upgrade from small to large capacity as dictated by the evolving requirements of their unique corporate internetwork. With the addition of the NetWare for SAA module, the DataCenter Hub can be configured to support up to 3500 NetWare for SAA sessions (depending on application requirements and network capacity). Current competitive solutions offer support for only 508 sessions. Apertus is also announcing future support for FDDI LAN connections on the NetWare for SAA module.
Integration of Novell's NetWare for SAA represents a major strategic extension of Apertus' DataCenter Hub," said Robert D. Gordon, Apertus' chairman and CEO. "The addition of a NetWare for SAA module makes Apertus' DataCenter Hub the only product that offers a high capacity, high availability platform for consolidating multiple NetWare for SAA gateways at the IBM channel."
"As businesses move from centralized to distributed processing systems, IS managers are faced with the challenge of sustaining a communications link to the mission critical data and applications written for their legacy systems," said Gerry Machi, vice president and general manager of Novell, Sunnyvale. "Apertus' DataCenter Hub equipped with NetWare for SAA modules gives these IS managers a real-world solution for addressing the capacity and management needs of these large environments today."
The DataCenter Hub NetWare for SAA module includes a i486 MHz processor, up to 5 EISA slots per module for LAN connectivity, and offers scalable memory and storage. It will be available in early summer of 1993, with pricing beginning at $11,750.
