APC GAINS ISO9000 STATUS ON QUALITY PROGRAMS, WINS SUPPLIER OF EXCELLENCE AWARD FROM UNISYS

WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- After a detailed analysis of APC's processes and procedures, National Quality Assurance has granted APC (NASDAQ: APCC) its prestigious ISO9000 quality seal. APC's quality systems were audited to the stringent ISO9002 level.
"We are pleased to receive this certification," said Rodger B. Dowdell Jr., president and CEO of APC, noting that only about 1,000 companies in the United States have achieved ISO9000 status.
"It extends our ability to compete both domestically and abroad, where ISO9000 certification is mandatory for many buyers," said Dowdell. Contrary to popular belief, the ISO9000 process examines only the quality of a company's systems and processes, not product quality. The best known product quality endorsement is perhaps the Malcolm Baldridge award.
Dowdell also said that Unisys, one of the largest computer manufacturers and system integrators in the world, recently gave APC its Supplier of Excellence Award.
Out of approximately 5,000 vendors doing business with Unisys, only 22 awards were given. APC received a service and quality ranking of better than 99.8 percent and joined other winners including Intel Corp., Lexmark International, and Advanced Micro Devices.
Dowdell said that Unisys recently changed from a competitive brand of UPS and standardized on the company's Matrix UPS product line for its UPS requirements.
NOTE: American Power Conversion (NASDAQ: APCC) is the world's leading supplier of network power protection. Product lines include Smart-UPS line-interactive UPS systems, Back-UPS cost-effective family of UPS protection, SurgeArrest high-performance surge suppressors, Line-R high-performance power conditioners, and PowerChute network power management software.
