APACHE PARTICIPATES IN GULF OF MEXICO DISCOVERY

 HOUSTON, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Apache Corp. (NYSE: APA) today announced its participation in a natural gas discovery at South Timbalier Block 173 offshore Louisiana. The company holds a 33.3-percent working interest in the discovery well.
 The following is an excerpt from a news release issued by the operator of the well, Hardy Oil & Gas USA Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hardy Oil and Gas plc.:
 "The discovery well, OCS-G 4001 No. 4, tested three of five
 productive zones between 7,500 and 9,400 feet at a combined rate of
 18.8 million cubic feet of gas per day. A caisson for production
 facilities has been set and initial production is anticipated by
 August 1993."
 Hardy USA has a 33.3-percent working interest, as does Seneca Resources Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of National Fuel Gas Co. (NYSE: NFG).
