APACHE OFFSHORE DISCOVERY TESTS 12.8 MMCF PER DAY
DENVER, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Apache Corp. (NYSE: APA) today

announced a new-pay gas discovery from two Rob L sands at Matagorda Island Block 683 offshore Texas that tested a combined 12.8 million cubic feet (MMcf) of gas per day from two sands.
The company flow tested two Rob L sands between 5,800 and 6,400 feet. The well flowed 5.5 million cubic feet of gas per day from perforations between 6,297 and 6,304 feet. The flow rate was gauged on a 20/64-inch choke with a flowing tubing pressure of 2,101 pounds per square inch. From perforations between 6,002 and 6,021 feet, the well flowed at a rate of 7.3 million cubic feet of gas per day on a 23/64-inch choke with a flowing tubing pressure of 2,091 pounds per square inch. Five other sand intervals indicated potential production.
Initial production from the well, which is located approximately 30 miles south of Port O'Connor, Texas, in 122 feet of water, is scheduled for late 1992 following the retrofitting of an existing platform. Apache plans to drill at least two development wells targeted at Rob L sands on Matagorda Island Block 703 which is adjacent to Block 683.
Apache, the operator of the well, holds a 25-percent working interest in the discovery. The other owners are Hardy Oil & Gas USA Inc., Nippon Oil Exploration U.S.A. Limited and Arco Oil and Gas, each with a 25-percent interest.
Apache is an independent energy company engaged in the exploration for and development and production of natural gas and crude oil. The company's securities are traded on the New York and Midwest Stock Exchanges (symbol APA).
