AOX AND DRAGON SYSTEMS ANNOUNCE AGREEMENT FOR INTEGRATION OF SPEECH RECOGNITION INTO DSP-BASED PC PRODUCTS

WALTHAM, Mass., May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Aox, Incorporated, a supplier of engineering services to OEMs and major resellers, and Dragon Systems, the world leader in PC speech recognition, today announced a business agreement for the integration of Dragon Systems' speech recognition technology into Aox's DSP-based hardware and software solutions.
According to the agreement, Aox will support Dragon Systems' Dragon Talk -> To Plus speech recognition tools in its DSP-based solutions for OEMs. Aox's DSP-based hardware and software products include algorithms and reference designs for PC/AT add-in cards, desktop and portable motherboard designs, and local bus and PCMCIA I/O cards. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Speech recognition is the automated process of accurately converting speech to text, allowing hands-free control of PC systems. This makes PCs easier to use and improves speed and accuracy by replacing complex, multi-keystroke sequences or multiple mouse movements. Porting speech recognition capabilities to the DSP platform enhances performance, reduces hardware costs, and allows users to easily upgrade functionality via software as new standards and protocols are set.
"Speech recognition extends the most natural and efficient means of communication for people -- human speech -- to computers," said Janet Baker, president of Dragon Systems. "Aox's cost-effective, flexible DSP-based solutions are accelerating the integration of advanced speech recognition in PC products, making computing easier and faster for all users."
"DSP-based systems will make low-cost, high-performance, and easily upgradable speech recognition systems a reality," agreed Michael Aronson, Aox's chairman and founder. "We are pleased to work with Dragon Systems to provide OEMs with speech recognition capabilities as part of our complete line of DSP-based products and services."
Dragon Talk -> To Plus is an advanced speech recognition product that provides a faster and more natural way for users to control the Windows environment and Windows-based applications. It allows users to launch applications and manage multiple windows simply by saying a command -- eliminating the need for numerous keystrokes or mouse movements. It also features a library of built-in commands with 64 commands active at one time, and the capability to browse, edit and add commands.
Aox's DSP-based hardware and software solutions allow OEMs to integrate DSP technology into next generation PC systems and peripherals. Optimized for the Analog Devices ADSP-21XX family, Aox's DSP solutions include algorithms, device drivers, DSP companion chip sets, and reference designs for the integration of data/fax modem, speech, audio, and digital telephony capabilities. Aox also provides consulting services for custom design requests and unique implementation projects.
Dragon Systems, Inc., the world leader in PC speech recognition, develops and markets high-performance, cost-effective speech recognition for personal computers on multiple hardware and software platforms. In addition to marketing its own PC-based systems, the company works closely with strategic partners to develop products for their distribution channels.
Founded in 1977, Aox Incorporated is an engineering company dedicated to providing OEMs and major resellers with technology and designs to bring innovative hardware and software products to market. A privately held company, Aox is headquartered in Waltham, Mass.
