ANTs Previews Newest Database Update at IBM Information On Demand 2006 Expo.
SAN DIEGO -- ANTs software inc. (OTCBB:ANTS), a leader in compatible, high-performance SQL database management systems, today held the first public preview of its flagship ANTs Data Server (ADS) version 3.60 at the IBM Information On Demand 2006 Expo being held here this week. ANTs also announced an October 31 availability for the beta release of ADS 3.60, which is packed with new compatibility, performance and management improvements.
The ANTs Data Server 3.60 expands its database compatibility with a significant number of new features, including support for the Oracle Call Interface (OCI), a set of APIs used to interact with Oracle databases, as well as new extensions for Sybase and SQL Server. An improved high-speed data loader is 400 percent faster than previous versions, and a new quality-of-service feature enables administrators to prioritize users and queries to meet stringent response-time criteria and guarantee service levels. The new Information Schema improves system management with comprehensive statistics on internal operations and performance characteristics, and can present this data in popular Oracle V$ systems management views.
"The ANTs Data Server 3.60 is the result of the most significant software development effort in the company's history, and an important milestone in fulfilling our database consolidation vision," said Joe Kozak, president and CEO of ANTs Software. "This release includes important compatibility enhancements to help make migration from legacy databases much easier while offering improvements in performance and manageability to handle the most demanding applications."
In addition to supporting the Oracle Call Interface, ADS 3.60 expands its support for Oracle's PL/SQL stored procedure language and PL/SQL Packages, enabling developers to group procedures and functions into common groups typically based upon their functionality. ADS 3.60 also offers improved SQL functionality, as well as expanded support for Sybase and SQL Server functions.
The high-speed data loader dramatically reduces the time required to load large databases or input large amounts of data from applications. With the ability to load hundreds of thousands of records per second, ADS 3.60 improves support for high-volume, real-time transactional applications found in financial services, telecommunications, and other industries.
The new quality-of-service capabilities enable users and queries to the database to be prioritized, allowing higher priorities to be assigned to those with more critical needs and providing improved overall performance.
The new Information Schema in ADS 3.60 greatly enhances database management by logically representing the descriptions of objects within the database in the same way as ordinary data. Authorized users can retrieve this metadata information using SQL. The Information Schema records comprehensive statistics about internal operations and performance characteristics, offering improved options for performance tuning, optimizing configurations and more.
The data contained in the Information Schema is made more accessible through new support for Oracle system management tables, or V$ views, making it easier for Oracle database administrators to get the information they need from the ANTs Data Server using the same kind of tables and table names as they would with Oracle.
The new ANTs Enterprise Manager provides a new graphical user interface for ANTs Data Server database administration.
ANTs LogMiner performs a variety of replication functions for near real-time synchronization among databases. Selective replication synchronizes specific database objects, heterogeneous replication enables synchronization between the ANTs Data Server and other databases, such as IBM DB2, while homogeneous replication provides synchronization between ANTs databases.
ADS 3.60 now supports for IBM real-time Linux, Windows x64 and Windows Services for UNIX (SFU).
Other enhancements include: incremental online backup; improved automated restore; and new and local country support using the IBM International Components for Unicode (ICU) library.
About the ANTs Data Server
The ANTs Data Server is a full-featured, standards-compliant relational database management system based on a breakthrough, high-performance SQL query execution engine that incorporates innovative, lock-free operations. It can typically be deployed on fewer, low-cost servers with the potential to reduce hardware, software and system administration costs by 60 to 90 percent. Through its compatibility with Oracle, Sybase and SQL Server databases, and its embedded deployment mode that supports Oracle-TimesTen applications, the ANTs Data Server allows applications to be moved without the major rewrites and cost usually associated with application migration.
