ANTIVIRALS INC. APPOINTS ALAN P. TIMMINS CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

 PORTLAND, Ore., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- ANTIVIRALS Inc. today announced that Alan P. Timmins has been appointed chief financial officer of the biotechnology company. Timmins has extensive experience in the high technology arena and in working with rapid-growth companies in a variety of industries.
 "Alan's unique combination of financial expertise, strategic innovation and marketing savvy makes him a tremendous asset to our management team," said Denis R. Burger, Ph.D., president and chief operating officer. As chief financial officer, Timmins will be responsible for all corporate finance transactions, financial reporting and investor relations.
 Prior to joining ANTIVIRALS, Timmins spent over 10 years with the international accounting and consulting firm of Price Waterhouse, most recently as a senior manager in the San Francisco office, where he managed one of that firm's largest technology engagements. He additionally worked as part of the development team for artificial intelligence applications in the Price Waterhouse Technology Centre in Menlo Park, Calif.
 Timmins, a certified public accountant, earned an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, and a BBA from the University of Portland.
 ANTIVIRALS Inc. is the pioneer company in the field of gene- inactivating technology, referred as an "antisense."
