LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 2000
Alba Internet TV features ANT's Fresco(R) Embedded, Slim Browser
Software Giving Consumers Easy, Intuitive Access to the
Internet From Their TVs
ANT Limited, embedded communication software provider, announced today that it has supplied its advanced Fresco(R) Browser software as an integral part of the Alba Internet browsing television.
Fresco Browser is a component of the Internet access solution developed by Pace Micro Technology and licensed to Alba plc.
As an integral part of the Alba Internet television, ANT's Fresco(R) Browser gives consumers easy, intuitive access to the Web. Users can switch easily between Internet and traditional television-based content.
ANT's slim browser technology is designed for embedding into devices that have communication functionality as a primary or secondary feature. It has a fully customizable user interface and requires minimal memory, making it ideal for the latest generation of consumer and Internet products, which have limited memory resources. Target products include mobile phones, PDAs, digital set-top boxes, Internet television, games consoles, household appliances and in-vehicle information systems.
The Fresco(R) Browser gives original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of Internet devices, and the technology partners that supply them, three significant advantages: far greater speed to market, reduced engineering costs, and freedom to leverage corporate identity.
"Pace has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with ANT over a number of years," said Richard Nicoll, general manager of Pace. The high quality Fresco browser is one of the most cost-effective solutions for the Internet television."
"We are delighted to be part of this exciting new product," said Simon Woodward, CEO and president, ANT Limited. "Internet access through the television is a growing trend, as is Internet access through a variety of other consumer products, including mobile phones and games consoles. ANT is in a very good position to work with OEMs and integration partners to bring Internet connectivity to the consumer, through any appliance, from anywhere."
Pace's hardware and software technology has been created specifically for television, bringing Web browsing and information gathering to the mass market in an easy-to-use format. It enables Internet content to be viewed through the television, bringing the Web experience to the TV consumer.
