 ANNUAL PEACH BOTTOM EMERGENCY EXERCISE
TO BE HELD WEDNESDAY, AUG. 26
Philadelphia Electric Co. (NYSE: PE) will hold its annual emergency exercise for the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station on Wednesday afternoon and evening, Aug. 26.
The exercise will involve personnel at the plant in York County, as well as emergency response staffing of the Company's Emergency Operations Facility/Emergency News Center (EOF/ENC) in Coatesville, Chester County, Pa.
The simulated emergency will include participation by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the Pennsylvania and Maryland emergency management agencies, and county emergency response personnel in York, Lancaster and Chester counties in Pennsylvania and Cecil and Harford counties in Maryland.
Fire and ambulance companies in 13 municipalities within the plant's 10-mile emergency planning zone also will participate.
The exercise will be graded by the NRC and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The NRC will grade PE's response to the mock emergency at the plant and at the EOF and its ability to communicate details on the emergency in a timely and accurate manner to the public through the ENC.
FEMA will grade state and county emergency management activities.
At the ENC, a series of news briefings will be held during the exercise, which is expected to begin late in the afternoon and extend into the evening. The media is encouraged to attend and participate at the ENC.
