ANNETTE PALUTIS, PSEA PRESIDENT, ISSUES STATEMENT ON VOUCHER BILL
HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement was issued today by Annette Palutis, president of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA):
The vote by the House of Representatives against the tuition voucher issue can be characterized as being both responsible and courageous.
The House vote effectively applies the brakes to a flagrantly unconstitutional proposal. The House members also acknowledge it would be irresponsible to approve a plan for which no funds are available.
Through the diligent statewide public awareness campaign conducted by the 25-member Public Education Coalition to Oppose School Vouchers, both legislators and taxpayers received comprehensive, factual information about the true impact of tuition vouchers.
PSEA and other coalition members will continue to monitor the tuition voucher issue. Events of the past several weeks have taught everyone that the General Assembly must not be forced into making quick decisions on constitutional and state funding matters.
