ANHEUSER-BUSCH TO UNDERWRITE $500,000 COST OF FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. has agreed to be the major corporate underwriter of the first presidential debate of the 1992 campaign, U.S. Sen. Jack Danforth announced today.
The company's corporate donation of $500,000 will be used for debate requirements ranging from transporting the stage used for the debate to electrical and other utility hookups for debate production.
"I am extremely pleased that Anheuser-Busch recognized the importance of these debates by responding to my request for funding on short notice," Danforth said.
In making the contribution to the commission, Anheuser-Busch Chairman of the Board and President August A. Busch III commented:
"Anheuser-Busch has a long tradition of corporate citizenship. We are happy to help -- and provide a boost to our hometown at the same time," Busch said.
The first debate will occur on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. EDT. The 90-minute exchange will involve a panel of three journalists who will ask questions of the candidates.
