ANGUS CHEMICAL CO. NOW ABLE TO SUPPLY PRODUCTS TO CUSTOMERS
CALGARY, Alberta, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Alberta Natural Gas Co. Ltd. (ANG) (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Alberta: ANG) today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, ANGUS Chemical Co., is now able to supply all products to customers from its newly rebuilt specialty chemicals plant, located in Sterlington, La. Less than one year ago, on May 1, 1991, the portion of the plant which produces basic nitroparaffins was destroyed in a fire and explosion.
The clean up of the site, redesign of the facility, and two-phase reconstruction program were completed through a fast track effort. Phase I was commissioned in early March and is currently exceeding original expectations in rate of production and quality of product. As of today, Phase I is producing 80 percent of 1990 basic nitroparaffins production levels. Phase II of the program, which will restore full production capacity, is mechanically complete and start up is expected to begin in May.
In addition, ANGUS Chemical Co. has taken over the operation of the plant from a contract operator, effective Feb. 29, 1992.
Norman E. Wagner, chairman, president and chief executive officer of ANG, noted that with the timely completion of the Sterlington plant, and with ANG's other major projects progressing on schedule, the company is well positioned for future growth. ANG's major projects include the expansion of its British Columbia pipeline, the proposed expansion of its Cochrane extraction plant, and a proposed cogeneration project to be built adjacent to ANG's Crowsnest compressor station in British Columbia.
"We at ANG face the future with confidence," said Wagner. "We will continue to manage our businesses with a view toward steady growth of our asset base and share value," he added.
ANG operates in hydrocarbons and specialty chemicals. ANG's common shares are listed on Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Alberta Exchanges and trade under the symbol ANG.
